An extraordinary message from former President George W. Bush on the American principle that makes America Great. Without believing in this principle no American can ever be president, and all 47 presidencies since George Washington's in 1789 have, believing it.
I was sworn in as a naturalized American, similar to the entire founding generation of Americans, in Baltimore, Maryland on September 24, 2002, after legally immigrating to the United States in 1996, 24 years ago when I was a career civil servant at Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. My naturalization certificate package came signed by then President George W. Bush.
I had led Fed employees commemorating first anniversary of 9/11 in 2002, and had prepared a paper on political economy of international development as my response to 9/11, which became my 2000 America India Company I founded in 2008.
Soon after in 2003, as a scholar and practitioner of politics and international political economy, I wrote to Bush The White House from my private email and called the switch board and left a message encouraged by my Fed senior staff to do so from my Fed phone, cautioning about Iraq war thinking more along the lines of like Colin Powell, James A Baker III, and Henry Kissinger.
Bush 43 had visited Federal Reserve to swear in Ben Bernanke in 2006, 3 years later, a rarity for an American president, on which day the main doors of Marriner Eccles Building where I was an Information Systems Analyst (ISA) in Fiscal Analysis Section (FA) of the Fed's Division of Research and Statistics (R&S) opened onto Constitution Avenue sending a loud and clear message to both the Fed and America to let the normal be normal and not Dick Cheney's "New Normal" despite 9/11.
Every naturalized American must be assimilated by naturalization day, as I was in 2002, by speaking the English language to read and understand the Declaration of Independence and Constitution written by America's founders in English, and be able to write proficiently - English literacy - to participate effectively in the American public square in their own interest as socially and politically equal citizens, entitled to economic fairness, to keep United States united.
United States, however, faltered in practice while articulating the principle Bush 43 is so well spoken about, since the War of 1812-'14 when British burned down The White House and US Capitol, nearly 200 years before 9/11, to systematically undermine the American principle.
The way is the goal, the path we take everyday as Americans to the goal, as Benjamin Franklin has demonstrated in his journal, itself the destination.
